Life on board a Gulet - FAQs
Hos Geldiniz - Welcome
Generally, all our Gulet crews know a few 'every-day' phrases and are able to understand almost all requests.
There are also crew members that speak either English or German quite well. For example, the captain of the standard Gulet M/S ALI AGA speaks very good English.
As a rule-of-thumb, the higher the category, the better the English skills of the crew members.
But no matter what category you book, all our crews will be able to accommodate your requests.
We will be honest here, because we think you should know before you set sails - even though nowadays most Gulets have AC, it is not always possible to turn it on.
To cool down the cabins during the hot months, the crew usually runs the AC for 2-3 hours in the morning and/or at night from 20:00 to 24:00.
On a boat, the AC system can only run when the generator is switched on, or when the boat is in a port and connected to a power supply (in Turkish ports; in Greek ports there is often not enough power to run the AC).
When the Gulet is anchored in one of our beautiful natural bays, it happens that other boats also choose to anchor in the same bay.
You can easily imagine that the sound of a generator would disturb someone else as much as it would disturb you.
So most Gulets have come to a gentlemen's agreement and do not run the AC more than absolutely needed.
And please keep in mind, there is almost always a refreshing breeze when you are on the water.
The Turkish cuisine is rated among the Top 10 in the world.
Enjoy delicious and freshly prepared meals on board. You will see, our cooks pamper you during your whole trip.
You will be served specialties and samples of the delicious Turkish cuisine. All meals will be prepared fresh and there will be plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
We are certain by the end of your trip, you will be a fan of Turkish food as much as we are.
Enjoy three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
If you have any special dietary requirements (if there are certain foods you dislike or should not eat), simply let the cook know. He will be able to prepare dishes that suit your needs.
Tea, coffee and table water are included in the price of full board.
Soft drinks and alcoholic beverages - Please let us know what you would like to drink and we will buy it for you at the local supermarket prices without an additional charge (we will of course show you the bill).
Our Tip! "Bring your own whiskey, vodka, gin or similar liquors from the duty free shop. Prices here in Turkey are totally inflated."
sailing fit
under motor
As comfortable and spacious as these traditional wooden boats are, they are also very heavy.
To get a Gulet under sail and going it takes a very experienced crew.
A majority of Gulets (about 90%) are cruising under motor and hence many boats do not have their complete sailing equipment on board.
This being said, we appreciate that some of our customers are interested in sailing and offer a couple of boats in our fleet that like to sail during a one week Blue Cruise.
We have added our sailing fit symbol to the Gulets that do sail - usually once or twice during a one week cruise (weather permitting).
Sailing enthusiasts should keep an eye on our Sails Up! Gulets.
KUGU and GRANDI set sail regularly and let you experience how smartly such a heavy wooden schooner can glide through the waves.

All our Gulets meet international safety regulations including life jackets, fire extinguishers and alarms.
Goin' to Greece
When chartering a gullet in Turkey, you might consider going to Greece for visiting some of the beautiful islands like Symi, Rhodes, Kos, Kalymnos or Patmos.
Let us explain a few points you should know before:
1) There are extra harbor taxes for Greek waters (about 400€ - 600 € one week/boat)
2) Passengers in general limit is 12 guests on a Gulet
What to bring
Travel light is our best advice to you, swimwear and T-shirts is all you will need on board in the daytime. In the evenings people dress casually, but bring sweaters and trousers if you are coming in the cooler months. It's a good idea to bring a pair of soft shoes or sandals just to use on the boat.
On board we provide hand towels only so please bring your own bath and beach towels. All this should be packed into a soft bag which can be folded and stowed away to give more room in your cabin, not a suitcase.
The Mediterranean sun is very bright and on a boat hotter than you think, be sure to pack sunglasses, a good suntan lotion and a hat. If mosquitoes find you tasty then bring mosquito repellent and a camera is an absolute must.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five http://google.com/ centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using 'Content here, content here', making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for 'lorem ipsum' will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).
Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text.
